Beta Control Systems, Inc. was founded in 1981 as an environmental research and development corporation focused on providing state-of-the-art technology to the metal finishing and electronics industries. Over the past years, the company has installed over 120 resource recovery systems throughout the world, making Beta the worldwide industry leader with the largest number of acid recovery installations.
In 1996, Beta received the Commercialization Achievement Award by the U.S Department of Energy for our work in developing a hydrochloric acid recovery system. The new technology recovers spent hydrochloric acid from metal pickling operations such as steel mills, wire plants, strip steel pickling, and galvanizing plants. The technology, which also yields a valuable co-product, accomplishes this while using less than 40% of the energy demanded by competing technologies. The capital cost of the technology is also less than half of the other available technologies, making it economical for many middle and small size plants. Since 1996, Beta has installed more than 16 of these systems worldwide and is currently building several more for installation in 2003.
Beta is well known throughout the world steel industry as the leader in acid recovery technology, but our scientists and engineers continue their research to develop technologies that will help customers reach their goals of sustainable development in the twenty-first century. Beta has published many articles in trade journals and presented in almost every major international forum.
With our sister company, Plastic Services Northwest, Inc., we provide components and equipment used by the steel, electronic, and chemical industries. Beta also works with licensees in Europe, India, China, and South America to provide local support and fabrication for our technologies.
